Granny is a survival horror escape game where you're trapped inside a locked house and given five days to find a way out. The catch is that Granny can hear almost everything. Drop an item, step on a noisy floorboard, or accidentally trigger a trap, and she'll come looking for you.
I wish somebody had told me this when I first started - your first few runs shouldn't be about escaping. They should be about exploring.
Everyone tries to bolt straight for the exit and ends up running right into Granny in some random room they've never seen before. Waste of time. Take a few rounds just to wander around. Learn where the stairs go, find decent hiding spots, figure out which rooms actually matter.
Once you know the layout like the back of your hand, everything else falls into place.
Most players quickly learn that noise attracts Granny.
What took me longer to figure out is that noise can sometimes work in your favor. If Granny is guarding an area you need to search, making a sound somewhere else can pull her away long enough for you to explore. Not every distraction works, and sometimes it backfires completely. Still, figuring out how Granny responds to different stuff is a big part of improving.
The biggest surprise for me was realizing Granny isn't about speed at all. It's about keeping your head together.
Most of my early deaths happened because I'd panic the second I heard her footsteps. Soon as I slowed down and actually started listening to what was going on around me, the whole game changed. The house made sense. I could remember where I left stuff. I stopped throwing away good runs because of dumb mistakes.
I still died plenty, don't get me wrong. But it actually felt like I had a chance. That's when Granny stopped being frustrating and started being fun.
If you enjoy horror games that rely on tension, exploration, and smart decision-making instead of constant jump scares, Granny is absolutely worth playing. Just remember one thing: the house is usually less dangerous than your own panic. Stay quiet, think ahead, and you might just make it out before Granny finds you.
