You sneak into your neighbor's house, find a locked door, and start looking for a key. Then you hear him coming. Now you have to figure out where to hide before he spots you. That's the kind of trouble Hello Neighbor gets you into. It's a stealth horror game about exploring a strange house and finding out what your neighbor is hiding in the basement. You can poke around in plenty of rooms, but if you get caught, you’ll be sent right back to the beginning of your plan.
You'll need to explore the house to find a way into the basement. You'll find objects scattered around the house, and some of them will come in handy later. The hard part is working out what to do while keeping an eye on the Neighbor.

One annoying thing about Hello Neighbor is that you can spend ages looking for a way forward and still miss something sitting in plain sight. Maybe you have the right item but haven't found where to use it. Maybe there's a window you haven't tried to reach. You'll probably have a few moments when you stop and wonder what you're supposed to do next.
That's part of the puzzle, though. You can go back through a room, notice something you missed, and suddenly have a new idea. Just be careful about getting too comfortable while you're searching. The Neighbor might turn up while you're searching, and then you're running for it.
If you like sneaking into places you shouldn't be and solving puzzles along the way, Hello Neighbor is worth trying. The house has a quirky, colorful look, so it doesn't resemble the usual dark horror setting. That makes sneaking around the house feel a little strange, but in a good way.
It can be frustrating when you can't figure out what an item does or get caught just as you're making progress. Still, if you're the kind of player who keeps trying because you need to know what's behind that locked door, you'll probably want to see what's in the basement.
If sneaking around the Neighbor's house gets your heart racing, Granny takes that fear to another level, with creaky floors, hidden keys, and an old woman who hears almost everything.
