Santy Is Home is a short Christmas-themed horror game from the developers associated with Hungry Lamu. The basic idea sounds harmless: prepare everything requested by Santy and make sure your daughter Zoe is safe.
You move around a familiar home searching for everyday objects and completing simple tasks. Cookies, milk, candy canes, socks, and other Christmas-related items become part of your strange nighttime routine.
The gameplay is intentionally simple.
You explore the house, locate the objects needed for your tasks, pick them up, and return to your preparation. There isn't a complicated inventory system or a large collection of mechanics to learn.
That simplicity actually helps the horror.
Because the controls and objectives are easy to understand, your attention stays focused on the environment. A normal hallway can suddenly feel suspicious. A room you've already visited can make you wonder whether something has changed.
The basic gameplay loop looks something like this:
It's a straightforward formula, but the atmosphere gives those ordinary actions much more weight.
What I liked about Santy Is Home is how it takes something as familiar as Christmas and makes it feel strangely uncomfortable. At first, you're just looking for cookies, milk, and other things around the house. Then the atmosphere starts to change, and those simple tasks don't feel so innocent anymore.
It's also a pretty quick game, which I think works in its favor. You can finish it without spending hours on it, and the different choices give you a reason to play again and see what you missed.
Santy Is Home isn't a huge or complicated horror game, and that's probably why it works. It keeps things simple, puts you in an ordinary house, and slowly makes the whole Christmas setting feel wrong. If you want a short horror game to play in one sitting, especially around the holidays, it's definitely worth a look.
